Norton 360 Everywhere

Symantec's Norton 360 Everywhere ($99/year, direct) is a multi-platform security suite that can protect up to five PCs, Macs or Android devices and also includes 25GB of hosted online backup specifically for PCs. It's definitely a bargain for those with many devices to protect.

You use a single Norton 360 Everywhere license key to install protection on up to five devices. The online Norton Management console lets you check protection status and manage licenses. From the console you can remove protection from one device and transfer it to another, for example when you upgrade your smartphone.

PC Protection
This multi-suite protects your PCs with the powerful Norton 360 Version 6.0 ($79.99 direct for three licenses, 4.5 stars). To get 25GB of backup with Norton 360 you'd have to purchase the Premium edition, which costs the same as Norton 360 Everywhere. That makes Norton 360 Everywhere a real bargain for those with more than three PCs.

Norton 360 excels in all areas. Its firewall handles threats and exploits without hassling the user. The spam filter and phishing protection are top-notch, and it performed well in antivirus tests by PCMag and by independent labs. Password management and form filling are handled by Norton Identity Safe (free, 4 stars), now available as a standalone product.

Full Suite for Macs
Like McAfee All Access ($99.95/year direct for? licenses, 4.5 stars), Norton 360 Everywhere offers a full security suite. Bitdefender Sphere ($99.95/year direct for? licenses, 4 stars), Kaspersky ONE Universal Security ($79.95/year direct for three licenses, 3.5 stars), and Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security Premium Edition ($99.95 direct for? licenses, 3 stars) just offer standalone antivirus to protect Macs.

Norton Internet Security for Mac scans for malware on demand and blocks threats in real time. It watches incoming email and instant messages, stripping out any malicious attachments. A two-way firewall protects against hack attacks. Website filtering prevents accidental visits to fraudulent (phishing) sites and sites hosting malware.

Mobile Security
Like most multi-device security suites, Norton 360 Everywhere specifically protects Android devices, both smartphones and tablets. McAfee and Kaspersky also include protective apps for BlackBerry and Symbian; Kaspersky adds Windows Phone 7.

In addition to antivirus protection, Norton Mobile Security 2.0 ($29.95 direct) lets users locate, lock, or wipe a stolen phone by sending a coded text message. Its SIM card lock feature prevents a thief from changing out the phone's SIM card. Norton Mobile Security steers users away from phishing sites and can block unwanted calls and texts.

It's Not Norton One
In many ways Norton 360 Everywhere resembles Norton One ($149.95/year direct for five licenses, 4.5 stars). Both protect up to five Macs, PCs, or Android devices. Both come with 25GB of online backup. Both install on multiple devices with a single license key that can be managed online.

What extras do you get for Norton One's $149.95/year? For starters, it comes with 24/7/365 premium support. Contact support via live chat or have support call you; they'll handle any security-related task, from helping with installation to making sure a pesky virus is really gone. Norton One also streamlines the process of installing protection on your devices.

Another difference crops up if you want to protect more than five devices. To add a sixth device with Norton One, you pay one-fifth of the five-license price pro-rated over the time remaining in your subscription. For example, adding a sixth device halfway into the subscription would cost about $15.

Norton 360 Everywhere doesn't offer pro-rated licensing. To protect more than five devices you need another subscription. The same is true of Kaspersky ONE, though you can purchase three-, five-, or ten-device packages. Trend Micro's multi-device suite specifically protects three Macs, three PCs, and three Android devices.

?ber-geeks with dozens of devices may prefer the unlimited licensing offered by McAfee All Access and Bitdefender Sphere. For the same price as Norton 360 Everywhere, McAfee protects all devices owned by an individual while Bitdefender protects all devices in the household.

If you want set-and-forget protection with all the hand-holding you could ever need, Norton One is for you. But if you're capable of handling any technical issues yourself and want to save a little money, Norton 360 Everywhere is a better deal.

Sunscreen ingredient may be linked to endometriosis

ScienceDaily (May 9, 2012) ? Scientists are reporting a possible link between the use of sunscreen containing a certain ingredient that mimics the effects of the female sex hormone estrogen and an increased risk of being diagnosed with endometriosis, a painful condition in which uterine tissue grows outside the uterus.

They describe the report, published in ACS' journal Environmental Science & Technology, as the first to examine whether such a connection may exist.

Kurunthachalam Kannan and colleagues explain that some sunscreens and other personal care products contain benzophenone (BP)-type ingredients that are very effective in blocking potentially harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun. Small amounts of BPs can pass through the skin and be absorbed into the blood, where they mimic the effects of estrogen. Endometriosis, which affects up to 1-in-10 women of reproductive age, needs estrogen to develop. Despite those facts, scientists until now had not checked for a connection between the use of BP sunscreens and the likelihood of being diagnosed with endometriosis.

To fill that knowledge gap, the scientists analyzed BP levels in the urine of 625 women who underwent surgery for endometriosis. They found that high levels of one BP called 2,4OH-BP were associated with an increased risk of an endometriosis diagnosis. Women tended to have higher levels of BPs during the summer months and if they lived in sunny California, further suggesting a link with sunscreens. "Our results invite the speculation that exposure to elevated 2,4OH-BP levels may be associated with endometriosis," say the researchers.

The researchers acknowledge funding from the Intramural Research Program, Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health.

Tom Brady Debuts Ridiculous New Hairstyle at MET Costume Institute Gala

He can almost pull it off because married the world's richest supermodel and has played in five Super Bowls (losing the last two to the superior New York Giants), but NFL star Tom Brady debuted a ridiculous new hairstyle Monday.

With Gisele Bundchen doing her best Anja Rubik-Angelina Jolie leg pose, Brady walked the red carpet with an off-centered, quasi-mohawk that defies description. Dude probably dropped $450 at some trendy salon for the "fashion forward" look too.

How does one even leave the house looking like that? Oh yeah, with Gisele on his arm, and in his bed later. You win Tom. But you still look absurd.

Exclusive: DMX To Drop The Weigh In EP On May 15

X's EP will feature Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne and serves as a teaser for his next LP, Undisputed.
By Rob Markman

DMX is still fighting to prove that he's a champion in hip-hop. But like any formidable fighter, before the Dog steps back into ring for his comeback LP, he has to warm up. MTV News has learned exclusively that X will do just that in the form of a free EP called The Weigh-In.

While fans will have to wait until June 26 for the Undisputed album, his 10-track EP is scheduled to drop on May 15 X . Fredwreck, Rich Kidd and Dame Grease will produce on The Weigh-In, while Snoop Dogg and Tyrese will appear as featured guests. Lil Wayne is scheduled to appear on an unspecified interlude.

It's been six years since the multiplatinum rap star dropped his last album, Year of the Dog ... Again. Propelled by the Swizz Beatz-produced "We in Here" and the gospel-drenched "Lord Give Me a Sign," Year of the Dog ... Again debuted at the #2 spot on the Billboard albums chart, proving that DMX could still be a bankable rap artist.

In recent years, though, it seems that X has been making headlines for everything but his music, with mounting legal trouble and numerous stints in and out of jail keeping him away from the studio. When DMX debuted back in May 1998 with his first LP, It's Dark and Hell is Hot, he was an immovable force. His second album, Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood, was released only months later in December of 1998 and cemented his rap legacy. X continued to release albums, but he would also collect a slew of charges over the years.

Last July, the Dog was released from an Arizona state jail after serving eight months of a one-year sentence for probation violations. DMX is currently a star in VH1's new reality series "Couples Therapy."

What's your favorite DMX song of all time? Let us know in the comments!

Are you the proud new owner of an HTC One-series phone who's looking to enhance your personal ecosystem with some accessories? Then listen up, because the company that bills itself as "quietly brilliant" wants to flood your auto and home with all your favorite media. Via two YouTube clips, HTC has shed some additional light on its revamped Media Link HD product and its Car offering announced around Mobile World Congress earlier this year. Through the use of two specially designed dongles, and a snazzy on-phone interface, the software/hardware combo streams audio and/or video to your output medium of choice. The company lists both systems as being available "this April" on its website, so for now it looks like you'll have to settle for the two videos awaiting your scrutiny after the break.

Tizen 1.0 Larkspur arrives, fuels your open-source phone dreams

Tizen screen captures

The unveiling of Tizen left many mobile open-source aficionados wondering when the OS would reach its all-important 1.0 status. The answer is now: the coalition between Intel, Panasonic, Samsung and a raft of carriers has posted the first non-beta release in both source code and software development kit forms. The finished versions of either carry new features to reward developers for the wait: SDK users get a new browser-based simulator and a faster emulator, while those scouring the source code will find new point-of-interest and route searching features in location-aware apps as well as WiFi Direct and more HTML5 support. About the only wait left is for an actual Tizen phone to ship.

Westlife Call Beatles 'The Ultimate Boy Band'

'We'll just leave right now,' Nicky Byrne jokes when told Westlife are facing Beatles in third round of Battle of the Boy Bands.

MTV's Battle of the Boy Bands is certainly heating up. We have seen some shocking eliminations throughout the first two rounds, with the Backstreet Boys, 'NSYNC and New Kids on the Block all making early exits in the competition. And as we head into the Final Four on Wednesday, fans will be tirelessly voting for their favorites to move on, hoping to land a spot in the championship matchup.

A clear fan favorite in this battle has been Irish boy band Westlife.

The group so far has taken down the Backstreet Boys and O-Town, but in the Elite Eight round, they are up against the original boy band, the Beatles. We spoke to Westlife member Nicky Byrne via Skype from Dublin, Ireland, as the group rehearses for their final farewell tour, and he told us what he thought their chances were for beating their latest opponent.

"We'll just leave now, we'll just leave right now," Byrne laughed when told he was facing the Beatles. "The only thing we have in our favor is that our fanbase would still be very, I suppose, relatively young and want for Westlife to win. I mean, it goes without saying the Beatles are the ultimate boy band and nobody is ever going to take that crown."

Westlife still have a good chance of advancing to the next round. And if they continue to maintain momentum, they could ultimately face the new wave of boy bands, which Byrne admits he is a fan of.

"You've got the Wanted coming through and One Direction, and it's brilliant for them. I've met the guys, both bands, lovely guys, an Irish guy in each band, which is great," Byrne said. "It's brilliant for pop music. The Wanted, they're supporting our stadium shows here in Ireland, so they'll be our support band, so that's pretty cool. I suppose a little bit of me probably thinks I wish I was 20 again to do it all over again. But you have to hold your hands up — we've had a wonderful time and it's time to pass the reins on to someone else."

Voting for the Elite Eight in MTV's Battle of the Boy Bands runs until noon ET on Wednesday, May 2. Winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite band made the cut, make sure you keep voting. Tune in to AMTV and MTV Hits for their boy-band video takeovers each day and make sure to spread the word on Twitter using the hashtag #BBB and like us on Facebook for updates!

Most asthmatic youths are exposed to tobacco smoke and suffer array of health problems

BOSTON Despite longstanding recommendations for children with asthma to avoid tobacco smoke, many youths are still exposed to secondhand smoke and their health suffers because of it, according to a study to be presented Tuesday, May 1, at the Pediatric Academic Societies (PAS) annual meeting in Boston.

"National asthma guidelines have advised avoidance of environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) for patients with asthma for decades, but it is unclear to what degree these recommendations are being followed and what the impact of exposure has been in an era of increased awareness of the effects of ETS exposure," said lead author Lara J. Akinbami, MD, FAAP, medical officer, National Center for Health Statistics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Researchers undertook this investigation after co-author Brian Kit, MD, MPH, conducted a study showing that 53 percent of children with asthma were exposed to smoke from cigarettes, cigars or pipes from 2005 to 2010. These findings also will be presented at the PAS meeting on Saturday, April 28.

Investigators analyzed data from the 2003-2010 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) for 972 children ages 6-19 years who had been diagnosed by a doctor with asthma and who reported having asthma at the time of the survey. They looked at the association between exposure to ETS and the following effects of wheezing in the past year:

  • number of days of school or work missed;
  • number of health care visits to a doctor's office or emergency department (ED);
  • number of days with sleep disturbed;
  • amount of activity limitation; and
  • any wheezing with exercise or physical activity.

NHANES consists of health interviews and examinations at a mobile center. During the health interviews, respondents were asked about demographic characteristics, smoking in the household, personal smoking habits (ages 12 and above) and asthma history. Blood samples were taken to assess serum cotinine, which measures exposure to ETS or personal use of tobacco products.

Results showed that 53 percent of the children were exposed to ETS. After adjusting for differences in age, sex, race and poverty status, exposure to ETS was associated with higher odds of having three or more visits (vs. no visits) to a physician's office or ED due to wheezing in the past year; sleep disturbed by wheezing one or more nights per week (vs. none); and activity limitations (fair amount, moderate amount or a lot vs. none) due to wheezing.

There was no significant association between ETS exposure and missing school or work due to wheezing or wheezing during exercise.

"Although this advice is certainly not new, discussing avoidance of environmental tobacco smoke with asthma patients remains critical," Dr. Akinbami said. "New tools are needed to help families achieve the goal of reducing exposure, both inside the home and in other environments."

'Harry Potter' Faces Final Shot At MTV Movie Awards Glory

'Deathly Hallows, Part 2,' with six nominations, is up against 'Twilight' and 'Hunger Games' for Movie of the Year.
By Josh Wigler

"The Boy Who Lived, come to thrive?" That could well be the case at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards.

Just as Harry Potter bravely walked through the Forbidden Forest to meet his maker at Voldemort's hands, so too does Team Potter approach its final chance at Golden Popcorn glory come the June 3 broadcast. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2," the eighth and last film in the Warner Bros. fantasy series, has scored six nominations, including nods for Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, a Best Kiss nomination for Watson and Rupert Grint, and a coveted shot at Movie of the Year.

Will this be the year "Potter" finally brings that top award home? With a big target out of the way, it just might be.

For years at the Movie Awards, magic has succumbed to bloodsucking in the battle between "Potter" and "Twilight." But with "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" netting only two nominations this year — one for Movie of the Year, another for Best Kiss — the path is considerably clearer for the boy wizard and his companions to make a run at the six awards for which it's nominated. With a reduced "Twilight" presence at this year's show, perhaps the odds are in Harry's favor, to borrow a phrase from another fan-backed franchise.

Then again, besting that franchise — "The Hunger Games," if you're one of two people who didn't catch the reference — could prove trickier than destroying one of He Who Must Not Be Named's Horcruxes for "Potter" fans. Breaking past $600 million at the global box office, "Hunger Games" brings both commercial and critical firepower to this particular race, leading the Movie Awards nominations with eight.

The Jennifer Lawrence-led film managed second place during the MTV Movie Brawl 2012, scoring 1.7 million votes. "Potter" wasn't eligible for that competition, of course, but it's no slouch in the tournament department: Last year, netted more than 7 million votes all told.

Clearly, there are a lot of fans of both franchises, and there's a strong case to be made for both series. For "Potter," it's the end of an era, the last hoorah in one of the most celebrated fantasy stories of all time. For "Hunger Games," it's the beginning of something fantastic and new, an occasion worth honoring.

Will the passion behind the "Potter" finale surpass the passion behind the "Hunger Games" debut, or vice versa? Will the two cancel each other out, leaving the way for a surprise first-place finish from the twice-nominated "Breaking Dawn," the comedy smash "Bridesmaids" or the Oscar-nominated "The Help"?

Whether or not "Potter" trumps "Hunger Games," "Twilight" or any one of its other many rivals is a matter that won't be resolved today. For now, here's what we do know: This is the last opportunity for "Potter" fans to make magic happen at the MTV Movie Awards. If ever there was a time to cast "Accio Golden Popcorn!" that time is certainly now.
