North Polk returned to the field tonight for the first time since winning the longest game in state tournament history. The Comets outlasted Albia in 13 innings to advance to the semifinals against Kuemper Catholic. The Knights spotted North Polk 3-runs before Kolby Hilgenberg?s sac-fly that drove in Bryce Wessel. In the third inning North Polk?s Matthew Cox swiped second base and the throw skipped into center field allowing Jacob Hadaway to score. Comets pull away late to top the Knights 6-2 and advance to the 2A State Championship.
Roland-Story jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the defending State Champion, Beckman Catholic Blazers. Alex Muhlenburg hit an RBI single to drive in Evan Johnson. Blazer responded in a big way, scoring 13-unanswered runs and ending the Norsemen season with a 13-2 win.
Beckman Catholic is the only defending champions still left in all classes.
