If you're boiling a handful of hard boiled eggs to enjoy later, but want to store them in an egg carton with your raw eggs, how can you tell them apart? If you add a few tablespoons of balsamic vinegar to the pot when you boil them, you'll have no trouble.
Brigitt Hauck at Real Simple explains that the vinegar tints the boiled egg shells a subtle beige without changing the flavor of the egg inside, allowing you to easily distinguish them from their unboiled brethren. Unfortunately, this trick won't work if you boil your eggs in a muffin tin or bake them in an oven, but if you boil your eggs the scientifically perfect way, this is an easy way to keep them organized.
