FCC Hearings
The FCC will hold a series of field hearings in the coming months to review the challenges to communications in the wake of Superstorm SANDY.? The hearings will commence early in 2013.
Chairman JULIUS GENACHOWSKI said, ?This unprecedented storm has revealed new challenges that will require a national dialogue around ideas and actions to ensure the resilience of communications networks. As our thoughts and sympathies remain with those who have suffered loss and damage as a result of Superstorm Sandy, I urge all stakeholders to engage constructively in the period ahead.?? He thanked Sen, CHUCK SCHUMER (D-NY) for pushing the issue.
Among the topics to be addressed will be how communications providers can work together in emergencies, including sharing resources; back-up power resources; and restoration of service.
