Alastair Cook praises coaching staff ? Cricket News Update
England?s victorious skipper, Alastair Cook, has hailed the impact of Head Coach, Andy Flower, and bowling mentor, Mushtaq Ahmed, after the team?s impressive victory in the just finished clash against India.
The tourists recorded an impressive seven-wicket win, allowing them to take a come-from -behind 2-1 lead in the four-match Test series. After restricting India to 316, Cook again starred for his team with a record breaking 23rd Test career century, which handsomely ?paved way for his side?s commanding 193-run first innings lead.
The bowlers then did their part by routing India on a lowly score of 247 in the second innings, before Ian Bell?provided the final touches to the win by doing bulk of the scoring in the 41-run chase.
Cook was rewarded for his superlative efforts as he was named Player of the Match. However, the English skipper was keen to praise the work done by the backroom staff, and singled out Flower and Ahmed for their extensive guidance throughout the current tour.
The former, who recently relinquished his limited-overs duties in order to prolong his stay with the Poms as their Test Coach, has immense knowledge of the Indian conditions during his playing days with Zimbabwe, where he racked up 820 runs on Indian soil from five Test matches at a stupendous average of 117.14, which included a career best score of 232.
Mushi?s credentials are also appreciated among the England players due to his vast expertise in the spin bowling department. The former Pakistani leg-spinner has been able to turn around the form of Monty Panesar, who has picked up 16 wickets in two matches so far, just one less than his teammate Graeme Swann.
Cook was in awe of the two cricketing greats but insisted that the job is not finished, referring to the final Test, which starts from Thursday in Nagpur.
"We're very lucky that we have got people like Mushy (bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed). He's experienced in these conditions having grown up in Pakistan, playing in these conditions all the time," said Cook.
"His nuggets of advice, which you can only get from experience. He works very hard. And we've got Andy, how he batted here. So, two very good people. These are very important wins. We had a tough 2012. The way we quickly managed to rectify few of our problems, it's a credit to our coaching staff and the leadership of Andy Flower. Also to the players as well, especially on this tour. I can't praise them enough. Unfortunately, the job's not done yet," added Cook.
