NEW YORK (AP) ? Advocates for women's rights say the federal government's decision to comply with a New York judge's ruling giving all girls easy access to emergency contraception could be "a move forward for reproductive justice."
Annie Tummino is coordinator of the National Women's Liberation and the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit seeking unrestricted access to the morning-after pill. She says women and girls should have "the absolute right to control" their bodies.
The Department of Justice said Monday it will submit a plan for compliance with the judge's April ruling. If he approves it, the department will drop its appeal.
Social conservatives and other opponents argue the drug's availability takes away the rights of parents of girls who could get it without their permission.
