Violence erupts after Towson University homecoming

11:07 a.m. EDT, September 23, 2012

A man was reportedly shot during off-campus violence that erupted late Saturday night after Towson University's homecoming, Baltimore County police said Sunday morning,

Lt. Robert McCullough said a fraternity invited a number of people who were not university students to a party at the Recher Theatre on York Road.

"All evening we were receiving fight calls," McCullough said.
The police spokesman said the shooting victim approached a police officer near the Towson Circle and said he'd been shot, McCullough said.

Police gave the victim first aid until paramedics arrived and took him to a nearby hospital, McCullough said.

Exactly where the man was wounded was unclear, though the reported shooting took place in a nearby parking area, McCullough said. No information about the victim, including whether he was a Towson student, was available.

Six people were arrested, though none in connection with the reported shooting, McCullough said. Two were charged with disorderly conduct, three with second-degree assault and one with drug possession, he said.

McCullough said the crowd was large, but he did not provide an estimate of how many people were gathered. He was also unable to confirm reports on Twitter that police used pepper spray.
